Just replaced the head unit on my Astra H SRi with a Pioneer AVH-3300BT. Have decided to get a reversing camera and so ordered this one off Amazon...

To those guys who already have one, do you think its likely I'm going to need a 12V regulator if its wired into the reversing lights? I've read of some that experience Canbus problems, partially why I went for the slightly more expensive amazon one rather than the ebay ones.

If so, what part do I need to get? I've done a search on here and found several articles, but all the ebay references are now dead and none of them mention sellers names so I cant trace them!

Hope someone can shed some light for me!

unless its canbus compatible, u will have problems with it, is what im lead to believe. The problems being a flickering picture....

ive seen loadsa threads started on here were people say they've bought one, but i never see a comment about how it turned out, which makes me think it wasnt a success. i may be wrong but thats what i think.

I've thought about fitting a reversing camera many times but then the fact there is no feedback about them i decide against it. it mightnt cost much, but its a gd bita time and effort to get it fitted and all wired up, just for everytime u put the car into reverse you get a flickering picture

yeah would still go to it because the camera will be on, work that way on the eonon anyway as you can choose to view the camera with out it being in reverse. wouldnt be able to use this feature if it was from reverse lights

I have fitted a Reverse camera to my astra , to solve the flickering from using the reverse camera power I used a relay I bought from halfords!! , very simple and a cheap fix basically using the reverse camera wire to flick the relay over to a better stable +12v power source to then feed the reverse camera , solving the flicker issue and power up via reverse gear.

I had a the same problem with the screen flicking, solved it by wiring the camera off of the remote power lead to the amp in the boot and ran a cable from the stereo to the reverse light so the stereo knew when reverse is selected, this does mean that the camera is powered when the stereo is on but can only be seen when selecting reverse, this solved all the problems

I just finished fitting my reversing camera and found this thread helpful.
I used the remote lead of my amp (blue wire from the stereo switched when the stereo is on) and the same earthing point as the amp to power the camera, and as I was using a Erisin Chinese double din head unit I need a 12v switched reverse, originally I tried to take this just from the reverse lamp but this caused the head unit to go in an out of reverse camera mode, to fix this I installed a relay using the reverse lamp wire as the input and then wired it to the stereo and hid the relay behind the glove box, this worked like a treat.
