You don't need a XL tyre for your car, the LOAD INDEX is wants important and for a 225/40 18 you will probably not find a tyre with a Load Index of less than 88 (560kgs per tyre) which is more than enough for an Astra.
XL's are for big saloons, MPV's etc....

 

ah right cheers, just it came from the factory with XL tyres n apparently the engine is heavier than a norm one hence the XL........?

Yeah its pretty much the same thing. Reinforced tires (sorry, tyres :lol means the sidewall filler is made stiffer, or simply, is reinforced. Reinforced tires have the capacity of carrying extra load, thus why reinforced and XL are the same things. You will see either RF or XL to indicate the extra load capacity.

 

you need XL tyres due to the fact the turbo and all that on the engine are heavier

same ones i have on mine, exact same tread patters as the dunlop sp1's and seem to be doing very well and at that price you're not gonna go wrong

sorry to hijack thread, but why start a new one lol.

i currently run goodyear eagle F1's on the rears (were on the front but had to rotate for some even wear!) and the continental's that came with the car on the front, not really too sure what to get, i like the look of uniroyal rainsport 2's but cant find them online for delivery.

Whats the general consensus on falken FK452's?

im torn between the F1's which ive had and know are quite good
and the ZE912's which seem to get good reviews

Tyres a tyre at the end of the day abit of rubber that goes round and round, people have used diffarnat tyres and will say good things and bad things so only you can make your make up from what people have said.
