Hi all! First post on here and it's a problem! Have an Astra H 3door with the z16xep engine (1.6l, twin port)

The car has developed a squeal from around the cambelt side of the engine, squeal is intermittent and tends to occur once engine is warm, also there is a lot of suction on the dipstick/filler cap whilst engine is running

Have had cambelt , bearings, water pump and idler pulley replaced to cambat this with no effect?
Have heard it may be down to a dodgy cam cover?
Anyone else experience this or have any ideas ???! Thanks

You mention "Idler pully " replaced did you mean the timing belt pullies?

Sometimes squealing occurs on the auxiliary belt tensioner pulley, and quite common, the squeal doesn't mean its not doing its job, but may need a little wd40 lube, if its too far gone then may need a replacement pulley , or a new tensioner

You mention the engine has excess vacuum, the squeal may be air getting sucked by the dipstick,
i've heard all sorts of noises from these engines once the pcv diaphragm has ruptured,
get the cover fixed first then see if the squeal is still there

Not sure if OP sorted this but same issue here with mine which I've just diagnosed as a faulty Diaphragm after the car showing p1071 and rather than just throw new sensors at it (Like it wanted me too :) ) as that's not how my brain works, I dug deeper and found out that if you let it get to temp and let the 'whistle' start....Then pull the dipstick and it (Whistle) should stop. Just about to change the Rocker Cover on mine over the next couple of days.

I did buy the Diaphragm on its own but read that some broke the housing when trying to remove and some said it can't be removed BUT have seen others remove and replace the Diaphragm without issue! So I bought a complete cover as well, will change the cover to keep car on road and then see if the Diaphragm can be changed on the broken OEM Cover.

One other symptom of the Diaphragm fault is that the car 'pinks' at about 2000 Revs because the engine is running too lean.
