Hi
The first issue is definitely the thermostat and it will need replacing . There are a couple of threads on here that explain the issue and give you part numbers. I paid 83 pounds for my 1.6 stat from ebay and you need to get genuine vauxhall parts.
The 1.6 doesn't have a egr valve so you can rule that one out.
Spark plugs should be replaced at 4 year service or 40000 miles according to vauxhall. I replaced mine at 3 years and there was a hell of a gap when I measured them with a feeler gauge. I think you would get misfire codes set if the coil pack was faulty
The stabitrac fault maybe something to do with hitting a pot hole as this is your traction control and stability control. The standard obd2 code reader may not be able to read these codes and a designated abs ecu code reader maybe required

Hi
The original part number for stat has been superceded, presumably to a new improved version. I'll get you the part number later when I get home.
You do need a good diagnostic check. Flashing mil light could be coil pack.
120 quid for a diagnostics seems expensive to me

Hi
Sorry for late reply the thermostat you have linked should be fine.
Any good local garage should be able to provide a diagnostics test for no more than 40 quid. Once you have the right fault codes then you can work from there.

Just changed the thermostat housing and that's one issue fixed!

Plugs changed and checked the fault codes which came up with;

C0301 Fault Definition Not Available or Manufacturer Specific (stored)
C0700 Fault Definition Not Available or Manufacturer Specific (current)
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected (current)

Just getting the front tyres changed now as both are practically bald on the inside and definitely not legal. They were fine a few months ago. Getting the alignment done to see if that helps.

Anyone able to help, again, with the next stage of possible issues and sorting them?

Cheers
C codes are chassis codes

C0301-right front TES solenoid meter circuit range/performance
C0700-left front solenoid malfunction
Your abs module may well be faulty

P0303 coil pack is most likely if you have renewed spark plugs

The abs ecu also comprises a hydraulic modulator and the solenoid valves(one for each brake)and an electrically driven pump. I think there are companies that might be able to test the unit and if possible repair it, have a look on the Internet. Also if it needs replacing look for a second hand unit off the internet with the identical part number and same model of car as yours. It may need to be programmed for your car not sure

Regarding the coil pack it is a false economy not to get genuine vx parts in my opinion and a lot on here would second that

Hi
I believe Delphi is owned by GM so it is a good make and probably original equipment

Personally I think you should try and get the chassis abs fault codes reset if possible and see if they return. This may have to be done by a vx dealer . The only part around the wheel arch to do with the abs/ traction control is the rotation sensor and its wiring.

Don't think of getting shut of the car just for these faults ,the thermostat and coil pack are relatively common faults on the 1.6 and shouldn't trouble you again once sorted. It may not be quite as bad as you think regarding the abs/traction control but you may have to go to vx

The mil light flashing is more serious than it being on continually. It may go off after so many warm up cycles if there are no faults present
Iam not aware that the 1.6 has electrically monitored brake pad wear indication I know that it has an audible wear indicator.
I had the red brake symbol appear on my dash and it was due to a signal not plausible error which I had reset. My car is also the 1.6sri j.

Hi
Coil pack just gone on my 1.6sri
I believe the stabitrak error message displays due to the engine ecu sensing reduced power and informing the brake module not to reduce power at the wheels and therefore inhibits traction control.
Fitted new genuine coil pack all now ok just 222 quid lighter
