Having had mine fixed up when I bought it at 65,000 miles it has been whining for a while now but with no movement. Ignored it largely but what I thought was the heatshield rattle at 70mph may be the box?

If I dip the clutch and take it out of gear I still get a noise though which made me think diff? It's a different noise from the gearbox whine.

Saw a place on Ebay fitting the new end case style for ÂŁ650 while you wait but I think I'll pay a local place a visit to get a price from them.

Just noticed my 1.3 2012 van now has movement in 5th when going on/off throttle. Its done 83k. Its a different gearbox but essentially the same as a M32 aint it?

99k Input shaft bearings gone. Just about to attempt he fic myself as Aussie Mechanics 1- have no idea about this issue (one guy told me i had a bruised first gear) and 2 - charge like wounded bulls - cheapest quote i've had is $2,500.

I've just clocked 100,000 on mine but the whining started about 2 years ago in all gears. I was told by an independent garage last year when I got my cam belt and water pump replaced that it was the turbo and nothing to worry about. Asked today after my MOT and Service at VX and they said it was a bearing in the gearbox. Quoted me ÂŁ5630 worse case scenario for transmission rebuild, clutch and flywheel ;( I need to look and see if I can find a garage to replace the impacted bearing(s). Anyone know of anywhere in Kent?

- I've since had the gear box refurbed for ÂŁ600. All fixed :)

480 down in Plymouth, that was for all the bearings replaced with the upgraded ones with the bigger races and with box still on the car. 300 box only. One option for south coast but the south coast is pretty long!
Where was this? I'm in Cornwall and need my 1.9CDTi M32 looking at on 88k. No whine but clunk from 3 to 4 and crunch into 5. So this is close enough for me.

Just bought one with 85k on it. Movement in 1st on the lever and a slight whine in 3rd and 4th. Hoping will be an easy fix. Other gears are perfect. Gonna try the 3 end bearings 1st and put the reccomended oil in, might stick some molyslip in aswell, which we use for car trialing in the diffs. Will hopefully save taking the box out for now. Money is a little tight at the moment and it needs a service with cambelt doing.

Has anyone any advice or recommendations on M32 repair in the Buckinghamshire area.

I have a 2004 170 Astra H with about 75k on the clock. The gear stick now moves in first gear quite a bit, and in 5th and 6th also. There is, however, no noticeable noise to go with it. Frankly, I'm not sure it's financially responsible to get a repair done if it's more than ÂŁ750 as the car is barely worth ÂŁ1500 these days, but I do really love driving it.
There seem to be a few recommendations that come up on here, but all a few hours away. Does anyone have any closer to home recommendations? I am open to travelling a bit for a good job though.
How much should I be looking at for a bearing fix, the gearbox hasn't failed yet but i'm confident it will within the next few months if left unrepaired.

Thanks in advance.

not great proximity to you but two i know of are : http://www.sinspeed.co.uk/common-m20-m32-gearbox-bearing-failures-repairs-rebuilds/ - Greenwich, London and http://www.************.co.uk/contact-us/ Kemsley - Kent - should cost about 600 bucks, not sure on these two as i'm in Australia but found them when i was going about my repair research. OR if you feel so inclined you could buy a repair kit online, you'll also need bearing press and pullers, i bought the kit on ebay, whole job was just over $AU500 ( approx 340 quid ) then, removed the exhaust, disconnected the steering column, disconnect the control arms, disconnect all but the left (as you look at the car) engine mounts and dropped the engine by about 5 inches, then drop the subframe a further subframe by about 3-4 inches to be able to take the end cover off from under the inner wheerarch and get access to remove the gears, you'll need a couple of bottle jacks or better trolley jacks and some axle stands to sure things up - a friend to help is also useful (and advised) although i did mine on my own - be bloody careful, there are many ways you could crush appendages. Removing and replacing the bearings was surprisingly easy, be careful removing the race from the end case case as the cast aluminium can break quite easily if not respected.

Hi,
My m32 gearbox started whinning at 26000 miles on my 15 plate astra 1.4t.Since then(6 months ago) I've had 2 reconditioned & 2 allegedly "brand new" boxes fitted under Vauxhall warranty. The last "brand new" box fitted is the noisiest yet. Each gearbox whines in different gears so I assume it's nothing wrong with the car itself. It's been 6 weeks since last box was fitted,i'm still waiting for Vauxhall for an answer as to where we go from here.I would advice anybody thinking about buying a car with this type of gearbox to think twice before buying, as it could turn out to be your worst nightmare.

My lads car has just self ingested it's box, didn't tell me anything about it until there were bits of gears and bearings being chewed up by the diff... 133k, but suspect it's had one before as one or two bolts missing... Just rebuilt a decent s/hand box and fitted that, but now the bugger won't run.

My 60 plate 1.9 DT astra - mapped to 150bhp estate needed bearings and two syncros @ 41000 that was about 4 years ago now on 80000 and all is well , i do change the gearbox oil every 6-8 thousand miles using fuchs sintofluid. Got the job done at Halifax Gearbox N Clutch cost 600 notes.
