'Display safe' in a 2007 Mk5

Hi everyone (first time in the forum)!

I bought a second hand Mk5 2007 Astra with a Display Safe message. I've even called Vauxhall's service and they don't know what do do with it.
Right now:
  • I don't have the Car Pass
  • I don't know whether it's because they changed the battery (which they did)
  • I've tried to at least get the menu to input the pin but nothing comes up
Anyone has any idea of how to get rid of the message?
Much appreciated!

Chantik

I’m guessing it’s a CD30 / CD30 MP3?
Personally I’d save the hassle and check round your local scrappies first; most have a few Mk5’s about and it’s a super simple job to swap it.
Hi M23B! I'm happy to go find one, but I've never replaced one. Do you know any guide here to do it?

Hello matey!

There’s definitely a guide in the depths of the forum somewhere, this was the first video I could find online about it though:

Depending on what sort of tray you’ve got you may have to lift it to get to the screws behind, it just lifts up and pops out, wires underneath to unplug. It is possible also to remove the radio without the removal pins but there’s a risk of breaking the clips that hold it in so I’d be inclined to get a pair of those. Sometimes after you’ve put the new set in it’ll be unresponsive for a little while until it calibrates itself, but I think when I done mine I just turned the key and switched it on and let it be for 5 minutes, off and then on again after which it worked fine. I think that’s about it..!

Hey Bob, that's incredibly useful – thank you!
Newbie questions: do I need to totally unplug the battery in order to do it? or it isn't necessary...
Also, I've seen 3-line screens used on Mk5, is that something I can get as well?

Happy to help mate, personally I’ve always preferred forums over social media pages, nice to keep them alive!

You won’t need to disconnect the battery, as long as everything’s switched off it’ll be fine. There was a post on here a few years ago about that:

All screens are interchangeable with the radios as they all have the same plug at the back but if you’re swapping just one or the other then, as far as I know, it’ll be a tech2 jobbie to pair them assuming it was properly divorced from the original unit. Not something I’ve attempted myself though. Failing that, ebay or another trip round the scrappies to try and find one that has the radio and screen together and in the right colour!
Hi Bob, thanks for the information! You mentioned tech2, do you think the display safe could be solved with tech2 only? without the need to replace the entire 2 units, etc.

No, tech 2(or opcom come to that) won't sort it without the sec code(s)to allow access,
i posted info earlier for you about it
Good point!
So probably getting a new car pass from Vauxhall, plus getting someone to Opcom the system is going to be more expensive than just buy a new paired set (and doing it myself). Am I right?...
