I've had my Zafira 1.9 150 now for a couple of years and until recently everything was fine, but lately I've noticed a really strange, and possibly worrying issue just before the DPF regenerates.

The engine is warm, and I'm driving between 60 and 70 mph at something between 2000 and 3000 RPM. The car will then start to judder or shake, almost as if the wheels are totally out of balance. The first time it happened I slowed down ready to stop and the juddering stopped. I slowly accellerated back up through the gears and the juddering had dissapeared.

The next time it happened I was accellerating off a slip road onto the motorway and noticed the juddering once I was upto speed in 6th gear. I dropped back to 4th to get the revs up and the juddering stopped.

Then this weekend, on a dual carriage way around 65, accellerating to overtake and the judder starts. Drop down to 4th and up the revs and the judder dissapears.

In all cases right after the judder the exhaust note changes, and the range shown on the display drops massively which is almost certainly the DPF Regenerating.

Is this anything to be worried about, and what should I do about it?

Cheers
Simon

I have heard of a engine juddering during a regen to be down to the valves sticking and causing a mis-fire.

Scrooge, who is a Vx tech, mentioned it in the past I think. Maybe he can confirm if the 1.9 can be affected by this. Can't remember if he was talking about the 1.9 or the new 2.0CDTi in the Astra-J/Insignia.

Sticking valves was known but not that common from what I can recall.

I do remember getting a head for one though.

Thanks for that guys, what would be the solution? Sounds like it could be expensive... Hopefully it will be covered under my AA Warranty though!

Supprise Supprise, the dealers couldn't find anything wrong, and everything is within tollerances.... I knew that already because nothing comes up when doing a Pedal test :look:

That's one solution!

Not had any with it until now so would like to try and get it sorted without removing it if possible.

Only if its missing not if you remove the contents and put a pipe through still looks as though dpf is there that's all they look for
