The ecu that sits on top of the engine in my 2008 Astra h has recently been damaged in an accident in the work shop, what I was wondering is, if I replace it with a 2nd hand unit of the same part number and ident code do I need the security code off the donor car!

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the CIM unit with a 2nd hand one but to code in the keys I needed the security code from my car and from the donor car! But if I am keeping the same keys then can I just come the keys and CIM unit to the replacement ecu?

Thanks

You will need to code the new ECU to the car. If it's coded to the donor car, and you have that car code, you can plug it into your car, use the "reset ECU" option on tech2, and put in the donor car's code. Then you go to "program ECU" and follow the steps on screen to set up the ECU for your car.

Just another quick question, what's the differene between the xep and xer engine? I've found a engine ecu with security pass on ebay but it's from a z18xer engine while mine is a z16xep, can I still use it?

Right so even if I was clearing the data from the ecu an reprogramming it to my z16xep it would still be no use and I would need the same ecu?

No, not a chance. The two engines use completely different engine management systems.

You would have to get one from a Z16XEP. Is your old ECU not repairable?

Sorry don't think so, the car was in a smash an the engine was shunted backwards an snapped of one of the multi plug connectors! I suppose it is repairable for someone who knows how to do it but not for me!

Hi,
I'm wondering if you could help here

I have a Z16 XEP engine I'm in abit of trouble with these different ECU codes going about, and my code is FFFT 55561172 but can't find the full ECU kit of the same code as mine anywhere, but there is FOMP 55561172 or FHDP 55561172 available so as long I get the full ECU kit with key would it matter at all, just as long it's matching numbers not letters......
If you could get back to me
Thanks for time much appreciated!!!
