Hi all, just joined today, here's my story.

I passed my test in 2004, 18 years old, when I lived in Germany, me and some mates flew back to the UK and I bought a red 2002 (52 plate) Astra convertible (Bertone) (Yes I'm not very good with cars) and had such a laugh with it, absolutely loved it. Had it for a couple of years and due to moving away again it was sold on.

Anyway, fast forward to 18 months ago, I seen it again, the same actual car, my first car. After following it I got out to speak to the owner and told him how it was my first car some 14 years ago and that if he was ever going to sell, could I have first refusal.

Getting to the point, I now have the car in my possession....sort of. The car was left unused and as a result wont start.

I've had a mechanic look at it briefly and initial thoughts were a new fuel pump and brake pipes look corroded and could do with replacing. It also had one of those diagnostic thingys hooked up which don't show any faults.

The car has only 70,000 miles and I'd love to get it back on the road.

Why I'm here.......

For any information I can find on this model to help restoring it back its former glory. I'm thinking of having the local Vauxhall garage do the initial work on it just get it back on the road but on from there, I'm going to have a crack at doing some work on it myself and getting my hands dirty a bit.

Cheers,

Howdy All

I'm Greg, from South Africa. I owned an Astra H 1.8 (no vvt) for 2 years when i was 21-23, and it was without a doubt, the single best car i had ever had the glorious pleasure of driving and owning. At the time anyway.
I modified her with some help from this forum, fixed her with help from this forum, and loved her with help from this forum. Some really good folks here. Some imbeciles too but a minority.

In Jan 2017 i sold Stella as i was moving to Thailand to go teach. Single biggest motoring mistake of my life xD

Since I got back I've been driving a Mitsu Lancer 2.0 NA, and while on paper its every bit better than the Astra, it has been torturous in comparison. Just a big slow tank. Reliable though, I'll give it that.
Astra's keep you smiling with their agility, sound, feel, and soul. I've only owned around 7 cars in my life, driven a handful more, and still nothing has come close to the package Opel/Holden/Saturn/Vauxhall deliver in an Astra.
This weekend i have purchased another Astra H, but this time its a 2.0T :love:

I'm so glad to be back here, and I'm so glad to be back in this beautiful machine. Let the dream continue!

Here's Stella;

Here's my new, yet-to-be-named baby;

And here's me;

Hey,

Pete from Scotland, the kingdom of fife no less.

Own an astra H 1.3, 2nd one, wrote the first off in a crash involving 5 other cars on the forth road bridge, gutted I was especially as it was less than a week after paying it off.

Been floating aboot here while trying to sort out the usual boost issues with the 1.3 cdti.

Wish I had that excuse at least! Really, it was the 2 cars at the front had already collided, I was just the last one to join the party, my skid marks were about 1 metre long and the ones on the road even shorter, I really didn't see it coming until the last second.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Sean recently returned to the UK and decided that is was time to find my favourite car growing u, a Vauxhall Astra H. I am 35 but it has taken me a while to grow up.

I have owned 3 cars in my life.
Corsa B 1.0 L
Corsa C 1.2 SXI
Ford Escort (Big Mistake)

So in regards to the Astra I want. I am looking for a 1.6l -2.0l Petrol engine. It has to be a 3 door of course, colour is in the air but I think either a black or dark blue. I intend to teach myself how to maintain it. I'm hoping I can use this forum as a knowledge base and hopefully a resource for some amazing mods.

Hoping to also find my car here for the right price so any offers are welcome :D

Anyway thanks for welcoming me into this club hope to meet some interesting characters here :D

Hi,
Just a quick hello from a new member on here. I’m currently running a 2012 Astra J 2.0 cdti sports tourer which up to now has been reliable needing very little other than routine servicing and maintainance. The only thing it’s needed has been two new front struts in an attempt to trace an annoying rattle....which didn’t cure the problem and turned out to be a bolt (the one with the flat edge on the head) on the brake callipers not seated properly allowing the top part of the calliper to rattle.
I’m hoping to get some advice,once I find the relevant section, on an issue that’s developed recently and hopefully offer advice based on 35 years of diy car maintainance.
