Hi All,

I had a leak from the thermostat housing (1.7 cdti) and have bought a gasket from Eurocarparts. It made of foam type material. Need some advice on the following:

1) In the workshop manual it says use "special grease (White)" - what would be the best grease to use?
2) What is the torque settings for the thermostat housing bolts?

Thanks
Andy

I don't ever remember using a gasket sealant for a thermostat housing. They usually come supplied with a gasket of some sort, usually rubber.
For a torque setting, just nip them up snug. That should be plenty.

Just a quick reply - the only thing that has managed to plug the leak was Loctite 5660. I went through at least 4 paper gaskets during 4-5 weeks. In the end gave up and silicone it shut. Absolute nightmare. Buying a cheap pressure test kit from ebay helped a lot.

So long as the mating surfaces are clean and level, the gasket supplied should suffice, I usually with most rubber seals smear a touch of oil over them, even /opposite tightening of the bolts when fitting is a good tip
