Hi there I have an Astra h vxr 07 plate I have taken the head off as it just cut out on me with no power to find that piston 3 just pushed straight down so rod has gone and wondered if anybody can help me as I’m wanting to get it fixed ,I’m thinking if I get it up on stands and take the sump off will I be able to change the piston with the bottom end still in the car?basically push the piston up from the bottom change it out and fingers crossed she works as all heads mint ant advice would be grateful

If the conrod has broken it's fairly unlikely it hasn't damaged either the bore/block or crankshaft while the engine was still turning

Agreed with other comments above. Also you really need to find out the route cause of how and why it failed if you can, unless of course you know as it was being pushed way too hard. If the issue was partly caused by cylinder 3 overheating due to a poor map or fueling issue, you could easily kill another engine if its not corrected.
