Diesels tend to use different turbo's to petrols for a particular reason and it's down to exhuast pressure and the a/r ratio when the turbo spools, they also don't tend to have wastegates as there's no throttle closure to worry about on a diesel, tats assuming you can't even get it to work.

Biggest issue you'll face which I don't think you've considered is compression ration, naturally aspirated engine's run higher compression than similar sized forced induction engines so you'll be looking at lowering the compression with an engine rebuild and when your at that end of the scale your just as cheap going down sourcing a z16let from a corsa vxr or going done the z20leh route and making do with that, also consider the f17 will most likely crumble at the thought of putting charged torque through the gearbox.
