Throttle Delay

Hi,

I have a 57 plate Astra 1.6 3dr Design. I have noticed that there is a lot of throttle delay, by that i mean the time between putting your foot down and the car actually accelerating. (it cant be far off a second)

It's really annoying me! Don't know if de-restricting the airbox will help? And after reading the guide on how to do this i think mine is different. I need to remove the staples from one of the pipes which look inaccessible.

Does the sport button correct this on models fitted with one? If so can i get it Tech 2'ed to run on 'Sport' all the time?

Has anyone else noticed this?

Kind Regards,
Mike.

same question: what gear are you in, the speed you are going in that gear and what transmission is it (easytronic, manul or an automatic?)

Although I don't know for sure, I think that there's a degree of latency programmed into the throttle of most modern cars on purpose, solely because the majority of drivers are dire and their cars would kangaroo all over the road otherwise and wear out their transmissions very early. Which would result in plenty of warranty returns.

I had a 1.4 Golf mk3 as my last car with a cable throttle that had great initial throttle response. You just had to be careful not to come off the throttle then quicky come back onto it, if you did it would show more shunt than Thomas the Tank Engine.

i know exacily what you mean mate. in my old citroen xara it was near as instant, and im my astra its almost a seccond. I think its programmed into the ECU as its an electronic accelerator ect, so i think stampede is right.
As for what gear... its in any gear and netrual exacily the same, so i doubt de-restricting would help.

My car is a manual and it does it in every gear even neutral. I used to have a MG ZR which is drive by cable and i see what you mean about the shunt but i got used to that after a bit. It's just annoying because i have had it nearly a month and still cant time it right to pull away perfectly cleanly.

So do cars fitted with the sport button have this?

Kind Regards,
Mike.

yeah, i get a delayed response too. and yes the sport button basically stops this as one of the main purposes for the soprt button is to improve the throttle response
(it did this on my 1.6 twinport easytronic, of course having the easytronic also meant slow and rough gear changes :lol::lol:) but not on my new 1.8 :D
