Hi all,

What can cause a high pitch squealing noise from the front wheel/s (I think) when driving straight, and which disappears when turning left or right, and when I brake?
It's really loud and driving me up the wall.
No brake related probs such as grinding etc when I brake.
The noise goes when I press the brake pedal.

Took the car into Kwik Fit who said tons of pad left on all wheels, discs OK (though the rear ones are lipped). I don't keep the car as clean as I should and wondering whether its brake dust build up?
Guy at kwik fit suggested I find a quite road, take it up to a ton and stand on the brakes...?

Anyone else had the same problem and managed to cure it?
Car is Astra G 2001, 1.8 16v SXI
