I had a new speedo fitted a couple of months ago at my local stealers, and since then ive noticed that my fuel gauge seems to go down quicker then it used to on my old speedo.

I seem to be only getting 75miles to a 1/4 of a tank

I used to be able to go from friday to friday from a full tank, but now i seem to be filling it up on a thursday. Plus i seem to be only putting about £25-£30 worth of diesel in, it used to be more like £35-£40.

Im doing the same journeys as before, work, school run & shopping.

Could the dealer have set it up wrong??

Has anyone else ever come across this???

Cars going in on friday for a service so ill get them to have a look coz im fed up with putting diesel in.

Filled up yesterday when th fuel gauge showed just under 1/4 of a tank left. I put £25 worth in,this filled it up as the pump started clicking.

Since then ive done 69.9 miles, used 1.5 gallons, got a range of 365 miles & doing an av consumption of 48.7.
So why does my fuel gauge read this???

They may have programmed the wrong code index when they were replaced.
They said not to remove the old one, which i was gonna do. because they need to get the info off it.

So your saying they tec2'd wrong??? Because the fuel gauge and the info screen always seem to match up. I assume they must be connected then??

Get them to do an actuator test on the fuel gauge. if that works okay then fuel sensor type is the only other thing i can think of.

Car went in to have the fuel gauge recalerbrated on friday, guess wot...its still reads wrong.
I refitted my old speedo, and the new ones out by just over a 1/4 of tank.
The dealer reckons the fuel gauge is faulty in the unit.
And want to get it exchanged under warrenty, but ive had the leds changed so i dont think ill get an exchange...anyone know???

@ stampede..... what does the actuator test do???

Just spins the fuel gauge round to see if it goes round freely.

I will be in London on the 23rd/24th/25th, if you want me to have a look. I can do this test for you and take the clocks to bits. I can reprogram the clocks and I even have spare motors if it turns out that this is the problem...

I did the test while I had your clocks (plugged em into my car) and they seemed okay then. Not to say they will still be okay after the chimps at Royal Mail have kicked them around the sorting office floor though... :nah:

lol...it moves too freely......

its going in on friday, for them to have a look at another fault i have with the car. they want me to bring my invoice for the clocks then.can a fuel gauge be faulty and not the rest of the speedo....the readings on the mfd also match what the fule gauge reads apart from how many gallons ive used.this has the correct reading.
would they have not reprogramed the clocks when they recalerbrated it last week, or is that 2 different things???

I can't see them replacing the clocks under warranty after I've had them to bits, that's the problem.

Does the needle go up and down smoothly when the car is turned on?

I'm not sure I know what they mean about "recalibrated". The engine and fuel sender type have to be programmed and I don't know if this has been done properly or not.

I think you should come and see me with em while I'm in London mate, as I will know far more than any dealer about how they work (sorry for the immodesty...)

I don't propose to charge you anything btw... just don't want to see you having to buy a third set of clocks!!
