Just wondering which wire is for the reverse light? I have been told its black (black being the main colour) /white (being the strip) then I have seen some where else white / black. A pin number on the connector for the reverse light would also help (Y)

Cheers

The reverse wire on an Astra H is on the CANbus system and the camera probably wont work if connected to it. You will need an ignition live wire for it (black).

Something like a reverse camera will take a miniscule amount of current from the reverse lamp circuit, and shouldn't cause any issue with the check control system.

It is nothing to do with the CAN bus!

To the OP - the reverse lamp wire is white with a black stripe.

I tried this (connecting to the reverse wire) and it didn't work. When reverse was selected, the picture was fuzzy and then went black. I connected it to an ignition live and it worked fine.

Ok so me thinking the camera on the canbus would be fine too but turns out it isnt. Having the same problem where the camera is fuzzy then turns black only when the engine is on though. Will try an ignition live wire later on. Thanks for the help though guys.

Aah, this makes sense now.

Sounds like you are trying to power the camera off the reverse light feed, rather than what I was thinking of, it taking a signal from the reverse wire to know when to switch on the camera.

In this case you would need to add a relay, which is activated when the reverse lights are on, which switches the live feed to the camera.

Yeah sorry didnt make that clear. Where is the best place to get the 12v from for the relay? Might just run a cable to the ignition live at the ciggy lighter and do it that way.

I fitted one last week,
I took the signal feed wire from the reverse light, which was a black/white wire next to the brown wire.
I also tried powering the camera from this however the picture got some fuzzy lines.
So I decided as I had to feed the video wire from the camera to the stereo anyway I may aswel run a power lead from the stereo.
I used the stereo red accessory power wire to do this.
So now when the stereo is on the camera has power. So I can access it if need be on the screen at anytime.
And it comes on when selecting reverse as it gets the signal feed from the reverse light :)
Hope this helps!

Oddly enough, I couldn't get a supply from that wire - no idea what it's for either. If I remember, I used a black wire that goes into either the middle or bottom connector on the left hand side.

I'm interested in finding out which wires to connect to aswell , I have 2 wires fed from HU to the boot which are for reverse and the other I thought is a ground wire , so I tried the red wire upto the reverse light and then earthed the other wire to the car , and no luck when I select reverse I sometimes get a pic but my reverse lights flashed , didn't wanna take it auto electric so just disconnected all the wires

That black wire is an ignition live for the park pilot system.

If you don't have park pilot, you need to install a 5A fuse in position F13 in the REC, then you will get an ignition feed on that wire.

I wondered why I didn't get anything from that wire! When I was trying to find a suitable black wire, that one was the first I tried. You learn something new everyday!
