Did anyone solve this? I’ve changed the little valve in the oil filter housing and it still does it

I now know what causes this rattle. There’s a one way valve situated at the rear of the VVT system low down near to the throttle body. The purpose of this valve is to retain a level of oil so that the camshaft depahsers have oil on start up. The noise comes from oil starvation from the camshaft depahsers. If the valve fails, the oil drains back to the sump. So then on start up the oil has to get from the sump up to the VVT system. This takes a couple of seconds, hense the rattle. This valve is an absolute pig to change. But it’s possible. If this isn’t sorted, at some point the depahsers will develop the notorious VVT rattle and will need replacing. Depends how much you value the car. For me I’ve decided I’m not arsed about it and I’ll be getting rid once I have saved enough money. Hope that helps

anyone solve? i thought it was my timing belt slipping on a cold start because the sound sounds like its coming from that area of the engine when I cold start. I've done the timing belt and the noise is still there. astra j 1.6, 96k (the first time the belt was done and it was in very bad condition)

I see thanks, could this be related to a weird humming noise when accelerating hard, also coming from the front drivers side

Not sure to be honest. Could be the start of the depahsers wearing out, could be something on the auxiliary belt, a loose pulley.
