Hi everyone

I own a 60 plate Astra Sri which has the electronic parking brake.

Just today it has had the warning on the dash when ever I take off saying release parking brake even though I have already went through the correct procedure to take it off first. I can hear the mechanism engaging and releasing the parking brake when used however the message keeps appearing. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or might know what the problem is.

Thanks in advance

Sounds daft but check your brake fluid as in some cars the brake fluid level switch triggers handbrake light when low

Thanks for the suggestion guys however all fluid levels are all good. The warning only comes on whenever the car comes to a stop and I take off could it possibly be a stiff cable not disengaging properly?

Does your car have hill assist braking?
If it has its possible that the system has developed a fault.
Good indication of it going dodgy is excess brake dust around rear alloys plus rear pads wearing quickly
