Its showing as a brake light fault on the mfd, i've changed the bulb, cleaned the connectors and bulb holder as best as i can, i don't know much about electrics but i'm guessing its an earth fault, would it be earthed somewhere in the boot (astra coupe) or further forward?
Thanks.

IIRC, this is twin element bulb?
5 watt / 21 watt.

Difficult to get the wrong way around in the holder, but still possible. It could be illuminating the 5 watt tail light element instead of the 21 watt one. Easiest way to check that is to see if the tail light is brighter than the brake light.

Thanks, yes it is a twin element bulb, i'll check that a bit later but i believe the previous bulb was the original fitment Vauxhall bulb and that has been fine for the eleven years i've owned it.

Both tail lights seem to be the same brightness, i'll have to have a look and see if i can find a corroded earth in the boot.
