Went on a road trip yesterday to Scunthorpe to pick up some parts for a 5 stud conversion.
Still need to get rear handbrake cables and I’ll get new discs and pads too but all in tact apart from that. Just need a clean up. And I need Wheels too 😆

Also got a cruise control stalk and have Opcom to activate it, but when I looked for the CC wiring it’s not there 😓 gutted. Maybe I’ll retro fit it in the future.

Spent some time with the new bits. Got fronts and rears disassembled and started cleaning up the bigger parts (wire brushes on a drill).

Front and rear discs are unusable and rear pads. But the front pads have got loads of life left. Hubs seem ok too, no noise and move smoothly. Don’t need the ABS but no matter

Let’s make this a bit more interactive guys. Any comments, questions, tips, ideas?
The scene feels a little dead, even for the post apocalypse 😅
I "fixxed" wear on an MX5 seat bolster with a piece of black cloth cut from an old pair of my son's school trousers and some black cotton. It obviously looks like it's been repaired, but 99% of time nobody woukd notice. Unless they looked closely. Like putting a patch on the elbows of an lecturers jacket, if the patch were the same colour and almost the same material. But free. And took about 20 mins. Pin it into place first and then carefully stitch it into place.

My son has a 65k mile 1.6 16V club. W REG. 2 owners Him and his Grandad. He was given it about 7 years ago with 15k on the clock, but it's not Birmingham compliant, so I said I'd be interested, but it doesn't have cruise. Which I've come to love.
I'm told It would need an actuator off a vectra, and despite being a chartered engineer, I feel there's not enough information to give me confidence in how to do it. If you manage it, I'm ready to listen to the full in depth method.

finished wire brushing the front parts and started to Hammerite them.

Started brushing and painting the rear parts. Ive ordered some copper caliper paint too.
Rear callipers didn’t really have any rust on them, but they were a mess so I covered them in Gunk degreaser and brushed them, then washed off with a hose. They’re now drying in the sun.

Cleaned up the nuts and bolts a little by soaking them in white vinegar overnight. Worked well.

Small update
My calliper repair kit arrived for one of the rears (see pics). Not sure on the best way to take the calliper apart though 🤔 any advice?
I had to drill out and extract the end fixture on one of the brake cables, luckily I remembered I bought an extraction set ages ago and forgot about it 😅 Worked a treat!

Figured it out (thanks again YouTube). Old rubbers off, new ones on. However I’ve noticed the bleed screw hole has threaded 😣 the screw won’t tighten or sit straight. Really annoying. May have to order a new one as I don’t have a tap/die set.
Also fit the insignia washer jets and of course one of the old ones snapped off in the hose so had to **** about to get it out (managed).

Well I’ve got a brand new rear calliper on the way (won for a fiver on eBay).
The paint arrived so I gave the parts a final clean and got to work. I think they look great! 🤩

I’ll let them dry overnight and see if I need to recoat or touch up tomorrow. Brushed on so it’ll never be perfect but a vast improvement on when I got them. Happy with the colour too

So the plan is:
All need a refurb - I’m thinking satin silver but what do you guys think?
New tyres - two need replacing for sure but they’re currently on 215/40s and that’s a little hard for me.
Im probably gona go with a 45 profile and they shouldn’t rub. But advice would be appreciated. Im thinking 225/45/17 or is 215/45/17 the correct size?

Got a little bit done today between downpours.
Gave the car a good clean focusing on the wheels.
Started painting the new calliper,
And cleaned up the new wheels and took the centre caps apart.
