The Manol 5w/30 C3 oil has Mercedes approval for MB229.51. That means that Mercedes have tested this oil and found it meets their pretty stringent specifications. I would happily use this in any vehicle requiring a 5w/30 C3 oil.

I doubt it means Mercedes has actually tested the oil themselves.

Yes they have. It has Mercedes approved status for MB229.51 which means it has been submitted to them for testing and approval. Mercedes do not do this for free, Mannol will have paid for the pleasure.

Perhaps that's why all of a sudden the price seems to have gone up on this product. but I will still be sticking with shell helix ultra.

That's fair enough. I was just commenting that Mannol was a good oil.

The Shell stuff is good. The base oil is made from natural gas i believe. I have used it in the past when it has been on offer.

I tend to use Mercedes branded oil from the main dealer as it is cheap from ebay. The reason i use Mercedes stuff in my 1.6 Astra is that i also have a Jeep with a Mercedes engine in it. Fuchs made the Mercedes oil, not sure if they still do.
