You would normally have the EML on in limp mode, with reduced power and limited revs. Is your EML lit up? If so, a good place to start is reading the fault codes.

Sounds exactly like limp mode to me. As the name suggests; it's only meant for you to limp home/somewhere safe when the ECU detects a fault, it was never intended to be driven like that for any length of time. There is a fault somewhere that needs diagnosing and fixing, to continue driving with it in limp mode could potentially be doing damage to your car.
