Hi
Thought I'd join her and post to help other people who have come across a similar problem.

This morning I drove to the petrol, filled up and the car would not start.
Turning the key, electrics seemed to be working, however the starter motor was not turning off/kicking in.
I did the pedal test, hold down accelerator and brake, turn ignition key 2 notches (3rd is actually starting the car), watch the flashing engine warning light, counting the number of flashes.

I saw the combination of 1614 flashes
I sat there Googling, could ECN, CIM
Check key fob battery
Locking, unlocking

In the end I called the RAC, who ran some tests with Machine and laptop

Battery Test
Drain Test
Starter Test
Alternator Test

The result was the battery needs replacing..
He got be started with a jumper kit, bought new battery for £45 and it's working fine (for now)

Cheers I did a basic maths of 5 being E

The replacement Battery was a Sure Start 075 from a local shop (been there for year, very popular).
It looks like a generic (Japanese / Chinese) battery with a sticker on it.
It cost £45 (same price as cheapest online)
He gave me 2 years guarantee on it and he is local, so taking back should be easy, than return post.
Also as it's a is 12 years old car, I didn't think it warranted

Have you come across these before?
Was this a good or bad choice?
