hello and thank you for any advice passed my way.i have an x plate astra 1.8 sxi and it will not start when cold it has 2 be bunk started in the two weeks i have had it it has started from cold 3 times. iv been told it mite be the idle speed controle valve wich i think is on the throttle body or the engine coolant temperature sensor. if anyone knows the solution to my problem i would be most grateful thank stu

Welcome. First please describe the problem a bit deeper if you could, does the starter tick over and die off like a dying battery or is it completely dead on turning the key/ are you getting any lights on the dashboard eml / battery light? Could be a couple of things depending on engine code, but ivd be looking at battery the alternator or starter motor as the cause best why to check is to do a voltage check to and from said parts , if it was the idle control valve I would have thought you'd have idling issues in general. Have a browse at our cars in the pictures section for ideas. Or do a wee search.

hello again and thank you for a reply. i have cheked the bat and the alternator is throwing a charge in to. i have changed the crank sensor and coolant sensor and no change still wont start when cold iv done a some research an ive come to a brick wall. also im realy sorry for the random logins i work dodgy shifts

Hi. I have a 2000 BMW with the same problem (3yrs), temp low non starter, changed different sensors still cant figure out the cause. I just turn the ignition on and off several times whilst pumping the throttle pedal and it starts. Really strange problem. Jim

So what happens when you try to start the engine? Does it just crank over and over with no response, or does it just turn over very slowly like it has a flat battery (I know you said above you have tested it though).

Does it start up immediately when it is bump started?

elo elo again yes it starts sound when i bunk it but my legs and patients cant take any more.
