Hope everyone is well and safe,

Looking for advice on a thermostat

Opel Astra h 2006 1.8 petrol

My thermostat just died and is in bad shape, looking to replace it all not just the core part.

The original thermostat is very hard to find, and knowing that MEHLE bought BEHR, they came out with their own new version , BUT it has a some sort of "valve" that it don't know what it is for.

Does anyone know what this "valve" is for and if MEHLE thermostat can be use instead of the old one that did not have this "valve"?

above is the original thermostat

this is the MEHLE one

Can MEHLE thermostat with "valve" be used to replace BEHR thermostat without?

thank you so much

That thermostat covers more than one engine type, the "valve" is actually a temperature sender,
so the stat will fit and can be connected up to either engine type.

valer, thank you very much for your prompt advice and explanation. Much appreciated.

Having now this understanding, I will order the part and install it.
