My astra Mk5 55 plate on 72K miles won't start.
I think the starter motor has failed but it might be more than just a stater motor.

I got the following fault codes from a pedal test:

ECN 20100
ECN 20200
ECN 20300
ECN 20400
ECN 23002
ECN 65070
ECN 15505A
ECN 16003A
ECN 210300
ECN 210400
ECN 210870
ECN 213970

The engine management light was also flashing whilst the codes were being displayed.

I'm not sure what these codes mean and i'm struggline with my car as its been off road for a few weeks now

Cheers

Is the battery in good condition and fully charged? What makes you think the starter motor has gone? If it continually clicks whilst turning the key to the start position, thats the normal indication of a dead battery.

The battery may be weak after trying to crank it so much, it hasnt been changed since the car was bought but its more than just a battery issue
the starter motor makes this rattle and then makes a scream type of sound.

The key turns once and then it tries to crank then it gives up
after trying it, you turn the key again and tit wont even crank

Strange my car did exactly the same last week and still with VX for repair. I would get your stater motor, alternator, thrttle sensor and throttle body checked. Also check all fuses.

Yeah the ABS light flashes and the engine management is always stuck on.. the car will not crank and i'm having to find a towing company to take the car to Vx which is costing me a bomb.
Fuses are all fine, checked all under hood and in the boot

Do the headlights go dim when you try to crank the engine over? If they do, then it is almost certainly a battery problem. Much cheaper to try and sort that yourself, than get the car towed to Vx and have them diagnose it!

Mine had a dead battery last week. The instrument kept flashing; CID turning on and off. Turning the key just kept getting a clicking noise. RAC came out tested the alternator which was providing plenty of power but the battery just wouldn't hold charge. He did say that modern battery's just go without any warning.

Was there ever a resolution to this issue? I've just replaced my EGR valve and the issue is still present, thankfully the EGR fault codes have gone now.

Many thanks
