Is it possible to clear the light on the dash without specialist equipment? It is a 2004 1.6 petrol Astra with 100k on the clock. I was hoping the light would extinguish after the fog / headlamps were fixed but not so. I really dont want to spend £60+ on a diagnosis but is this the only way?

Tried that about a week ago, I had the battery disconnected for 3 days while working on the throttle/inlet manifold. Still shows.

I had a the same problem on my bus only a few days ago, i took it in to the garage because like yours after i disconnected the battery the EML was still on and even with the bus plugged in to the computer the EML could not be turned out, the codes that showed up on mine related to throttle body or pedal i disconnected the throttle pedal at the plug started the bus switched it off and put the plug back on and it reset and the EML went out.

after you started the car 40 times ish it will clear mine did
as long as it doesn´t reg a fault in that time and I think it´s 30 starts

If you have a Android phone you can buy an OBD2 bluetooth adapter about £10 and get a free app called torque then you can read and clear codes, you can do it with a iphone to but you´d need an OBD2 wifi adapter they cost more don´t know how much

If the light is still on, then there is still a fault present and you will never be able to clear the codes.
