Well i currently have a vauxhall astra 1.6 16v (16xep) and its having a few problems with the valve stem seals starting to perish and is now burning/losing alot of oil, so i was thinking of either a new car or else try a different engine? but i am unsure of what engines would be an easy swap for mine?

Well there's no shortage of drop in engines, you have both 1.6s, 1.8, 2.0 and 2.0t and the 2.2.

well how easy are you wanting it to be, if its your everyday car stick to 1.6/1.8 as the rest of the car will cope, such as cooling, brakes, suspension etc. And your insurance would remain the same(ish)

If you are feeling adventurous go for the bigger engines, especially the 2.0t, but be aware stuff like cooling, brakes, suspnsion must be addressed, and your insurance will go up.

Whats the engine codes for the 2.0 and 2.2??

2.0ltr N/A is X20xev, turbo engine is a Z20LET and the 2.2 is the Z22SE

X sieries being older and Z series being the newer engine



To the op, the easyist optiong will be to drop the same engine you currently have now

Remember that a 1.6 car with a 1.8 engine in it will cost more to insure than a car that came with a 1.8 in the first place
