Hi guys, tried once before, with no luck. Will try again.
Both my front electric windows went down okay, but will not go up!
My feeling is that there is a fault on the "under-bonnet control unit".
Does anybody know what it looks like or where it is located?
There is a long thin box within the engine fusebox. That could be it!
Does anybody know what voltage should appear on the brown/black wire at each motor?
Any help at all would be appreciated!

That fuse box IS the control unit - it's just hidden underneath all the mountings for the fuses and relays.

Okay on those tips. Stickman, if the fusebox is the control unit, do you know if they are all the same, or will it change with different features?
Loeb, I will check them, see if there is continuity between passenger side and drivers.
It seems to be something to do with the brown/black wire. The main voltages seem to be all present!

Most models windows are powered and controlled from the REC,
Has the car got a full blown rear electrical centre or just a small relay/fuse box ?

It is just a small batch of relays and fuses. It does not seem to have much to do with the widows.
By the way, it is the fairly basic model, with a 1.4 engine. Electric front windows, manual at the back
I even considered converting to manual winders, but can't locate any!

Yeah, I have checked them all but will do it again. All the main voltages seem to be there, and at normal levels.

First, I would like to thank everyone for their input on this. After much faffing about, I went back to basics, and remeasured all the voltages. When opening the windows, I got 12v on the appropriate wire, but on trying to close them, I got only 5volts!
Managed to feed this wire with 12v, the windows worked correctly! So, all at one time, I have had three switches fail! Passenger side switch, and both of the switches on the drivers door!
Replacement switches from the local scrappy, all now working! Total cost £20.
I will, no doubt, be back when something else goes wrong!
