I took my Astra 1.9 CDTi to the lovely Riverside Vauxhall (Evans Halshaw) in Bedford today and have come away not a happy chappy.

I booked in for a 2nd service and also asked them if they would fit 2 tyres if I supplied them. £185 they asked for with a bit of AON discount deducted.

I took it in at 8 o'clock as they'd said if you get it in early it will be done quicker. So I drop it off and go home. 11.30 comes and still no call so I head down there.

I get there at 12.15 and it still isnt done, they close at 12.30 and I had to be somewhere by 12.30!

They said the service was done and the tyres were in the process of being done. He ran through the check list and told me there was a problem, my air con condenser is damaged. I've seen this recently, where the bottom slat of the rad is broken on one side and hanging down (they had it fixed under warrenty) I asked if mine was covered... No. They cant warrant items against stone damage. Is this right? I'm pretty certain it is covered by warrenty. My car is 2 years old today.

Anyway, after more faffing about he comes out and says they cant fit my tyres because, wait for it... My 18 INCH alloys are too big for their tyre machine. WTF is that about? Surely that cant be right. Why would they buy a machine that is not fit for all purposes. What if a VXR on 19s came in wanting 4 new tyres, about a grand right? "Sorry the wheels are too big for our machine"

They had removed both wheels before they realised they were too big. This also shows a complete lack of knowledge about their own products!

And to top it off I have to go back down there to get my service book stamped even though I made a point of telling them exactly where it was!

Can someone answer my queries and advise what to do next?

Cheers

Buy a VW, Audi or a Honda.

I know what it's like mate, I can't find any decent dealerships down my way. My car normally goes in for a service and then I have to take it back the following week for something they have broken or forgotten to re-attach. It's happened so many times!

I'm sure converted_chris will be able to shed some light on this.

I'm no expert by any means but it smells like bulls*it to me

Well I wanted to book it in with him but when it came to confirm the booking I didnt hear from him for 2 weeks. Dunno if he went on holiday or something. That was my first choice as I knew I'd get an honest deal there.

I used to use Riverside Vauxhall Bedford (now Evans Halshaw) for my car and the wifes. Not any more!

The site is too crowded and parking is a nightmare. Once given a courtesy car with the petrol light on (not at all courteous!) Took them 20 minutes to find my wifes car when we came to pick it up after service. Have had car in for service and it was filthy inside from oily finger prints and boots. You leave contact numbers and they don't ring you and the service staff on numerous occasions failed to acknowledge us when arriving at the counter. Left Astra with them overnight to check clutch judder first thing in the morning and it wasn't looked at until the middle of the afternoon!

Had good service from Murketts Vauxhall in Huntingdon when i had my cruise control retro fitted so will be using them from now on. :)

Evans Halshaw in Bedford are useless. Took them 2 weeks to fit a clutch on my astra (apparently they were on back order) Billingtons in flitwick are very good and only down the road !

Yeah I've heard good things about them so I'll pay them a visit.

Does anyone know if my condenser is covered by warrenty?

Yes, Billingtons are very good. Brought two new cars from them and had servicing done there a few years back when we lived at Barton-Le-Clay between Bedford and Luton. I think they are an Independant family owned business, sadly now hard to find! You were treated like a 'valued customer' and not someone to screw as much cash from as possible where it doesn't matter if you don't come back again!

if there has been an external impact,i.e a stone hitting it,then no it's not warranty.same as stone chips to body or glass.unless the dealer decides to put yet another fraudulent warranty claim to vauxhall?

Surely that wouldnt protect the part of my car thats been damaged? Is it worth ringing a few other Dealerships and seeing what they say? Its not a wear and tear item so surely it should be covered by warranty?

All dealers are the same..

Just go and find a good vaux specialist if you can and have your car repaired there..

Rip off merchants..
