My wifes Astra 1.9 CDTi is returning 32mpg driven carefully whilst mine gives 40+ with a green box.
Previously was getting 22mpg so off the Vx for a 40k service, all new filters and cleaned the EGR myself to get to 32mpg
What else could it be?
Power seems smooth, little smoke.

This is going to sound a little strange but hear me out,

Get ahold of the keys, take the car out and give it the kicking of its life for a few miles,
I know it sounds daft but sometimes cars need that..

Once you have reset all the computers and see what the MPG is then

I'm having similar problems, I was getting around 29mpg. Adjusted my tyre pressures and drove like a total granny ( was pretty bad weather ) and almost instantly went up to 37mpg, I was still pretty disappointed with that.

Got new tyres, and cleaned out the EGR and added a fuel conditioner and still getting low MPG, i thought at first its because most of my driving is to work which is only 2.5 miles and alot of stopping and starting, but even on motorway in 6th at about 60 mph the mpg is only in the 35-36's.

tempted to put it in to VX see what they say but theres not fault codes or obvious problems.
Im also interested on how to recalibrate the speedo.

have you lot tried actually working the mpg out for yourselves instead of using the trip becuase i tell you now its normally out and i pay little attention to it

also in 6th you will get better mpg at 70mph as your just uner 2k
i used to go down to bristol every weekend and found after many long hours i saved more fuel that way but erm i normally waste any that i save :D

even having said all that i used to give that t8 hell and get 37mpg and i mean hell (6)

My car is really ******* me off with this, i used to get 160-180 miles no problems out of ÂŁ20 of fuel, driving it without thinking about consumption. Recently I'm only getting 30-32mpg on the clock and I'm driving like a fairy, I've travelled 120miles and used 4 gallons of fuel? I've got a greenbox aswell but even with it disconnected the fuel isn't improving! I know the cold weather has an effect on fuel economy but surely not that much?

surley the whole idea of having a green box is to improve fuel economy tho?

so it would go down with it off?

Ok, looking at all the comments I am very confused.... I have the Green Box. Before I fitted it I could get on a long run 60.1 MPG and around town etc 50 mpg. If I boot it I would get 35-40mpg. Since the box I can get upto 70.4mpg and I dont mean on the computer I mean on the MPG calculator which I have from one of the threads from AON. If yopu boot it before you reset the computer it will show you having used too much fule aqnd thus give you a lower MPG. drive economically for a few miles then stop, turn the engine off and reset the computer. drive as you were and it should show the new MPG..... hammering it before a reset will not help you see the NEW MPG...

Your correct mate, every fillup my computer gets reset to track changes in the car,
I know the computer s wrong because of the CRD2 i'm running but its out by the same amount all the time, so with the box attached to the car, if I get 55 mpg one week and 64 mpg the next I can still see if there has been a change

Well I fixed it!
23mpg to start, 29mpg after filters, 33mpg after EGR clean, 37mpg after ECU reset (to clear previous owners settings and learn the wifes driving style quicker), 44MPG by.......setting the units from US to GB!!
Would you believe it, it wasn't as bad as thought to start with but goes to show what filters & EGR can do to the MPG
