Took my 13 plate 1.7 CDTi to my local official Vauxhall dealer yesterday for it's first service. While I was there I asked about activating the trip computer..
Had the usual waffle about "We've never been asked to do this before" etc etc but in the end they did it - and charged me an hour's labour for the privilege.

The tech also ran into an issue while he was doing this - I provided instructions as posted on the other thread by Scrooge, however the guy was getting codes 3 and 145..
He tried putting a bridge on one of the plugs (by the front left wheel arch) but showed me that it made no difference.
He said that he measured with a voltmeter and thought that although the wiring was in situ under the bonnet that it wasn't present behind the dash..?
He offered to spend more of my money by removing the dash and investigating further - but having spent more than I'd planned I said no..
I left his work intact, so every time I stick the key in I get code 145 followed by code 3..
This isn't a massive problem for me as they are easily cleared, but was wondering @Stampede specifically whether your method could get rid of these two codes for good bearing in mind the above - or whether anyone else knows how to get rid of them (without chucking crazy money at it and having them take the dash apart)

On the plus side, it's great to have the additional info - but just think it's crazy that the trip computer is crippled on a model marketed as part of the ecoFlex range..

Sorry for the long first post
Cheers

I haven't had this problem when doing these activations my way but I have never done it on a car that has already been activated in the traditional way.

I don't think I can remove these codes.

Hi Stampede

Thanks for the reply, if the activation was reversed by the dealer's tech back to how it was, would your method definitely work with no error codes?

Hi guys, I can do this to all Astra J's. You are very welcome to come and see me.

I very much doubt it would invalidate the warranty as all I'm doing is activating functions that are already there. I don't think they would even notice to be fair.
Hi stampede

seen some of your work over on the corsa forums if your the same person I'm thinking of!

anyways m question is odes this till apply all Astra J's? s I just took delivery of a 14 plate Astra & I too am lacking the Tip computer options...

Thanks stampede.

I've tried replying to your message but I'm not allowed to send messages yet.

Could you resend me your number cause the one you sent me. Only had 10 digits. Cheers. Ben

After a bit of searching I found this thread, YAAY! I've joust bought a 64 plate Astra excite and the trip computer is gash with very limited function. Would I be right in thinking that the full trip computer can be activated but error codes would be thrown up but these could be sorted by bridging some contacts?

If I'm right is there anywhere in Lanarkshire that does it or should I PM stampede about it?

Hello respected fellow members, I have an 11' plate Astra J Exclusiv and I would LOVE to get my trip computer activated ASAP (lack of such feature is driving me absolutely nuts!). Could anyone kindly advise me on where I can possibly get this done within the region of London or near outskirts? I would absolutely appreciate this priceless advice from anyone (I cannot stress this enough).

Kind Regards.

Hi has anyone had a 2014 LE activated yet as they seems to have stripped every thing out of the loom of this model. It has the mid display but only function is miles travelled and oil %

Stampede did mine (2014/5 LE) on Wednesday night - top bloke, top service, would recommend if you're ever near Bradford to meet up with him, hope you find someone similar more local.

Hi MollyGoogle, thanks for the contact details. I've contacted GCAP with regards to activating my trip computer, but they are incredibly busy and they almost never give me a suitable time slot that works with my commitments (not to mention they close at 5pm which REALLY doesn't help).

Any suggestions for other workshops (or individuals) in and around London? PRETTY PLEASE :'(

They are the only people I would consider in London. It's well worth going out of your way to get to one of their time slots
