Hi I'm having an issue where we are driving along in our 2003 Astra, the engine cuts out, the engine light comes on and I'm stuck for 10 - 15 minutes then the car will start up again... I noticed the other day that under the bonnet there is a ticking noise coming from the black box which i beleive is the fuel vapour purge valve. If I disconnect the cord it stops, but then when I reconnect it it starts again.., then after 10 or so minutes it stops ticking and the car starts.

I've also added a video to explain the ticking.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do the pedal test or hook up to cars ecu via torque app or code reader, that will point you in the right direction if the car has stored a code, if your eml light stays on then it has.

But it does just look as if replacing that valve could sort it, I've got a 1.6 z16xe and I've drove around with my purge pipe disconnected (oops) and my car didn't idle right, didn't cut out but could of if I didn't hold throttle open a bit while at lights etc.
