Got for the 1.9, much better ;)

Dads 1.7 was noisey as hell on a 09 plate. Also all 4 glow plugs went and fused into head so vauxhall had to get a specialist out to do it. One was under warranty, one outside so he had to pay and the other 2 once he part ex'd it for the mokka lol

The 1.7 is quicker than a 1.9 120 in reality. Every one (mine included) I've known of that's been RR'd from standard has out out at least 120ps.

The 1.7 is a very reliable, tried and tested Japanese Diesel engine designed by Izuzu. The 1.9 is a badly designed Fiat engine which goes wrong every five minutes, bolted to a drivetrain made out of TicTac packets. I've owned both Z17DTH and Z19DTH, would never touch a 1.9 again, but I'd have another 1.7 and day.

To be fair, the Fiat bit is fine, it's the Vauxhall bits that break  The Saab version doesn't have swirl flaps and doesn't have the same issues

Not sure if I can take that seriously
Fix it again tomorrow for good reason though the 120 8v is more reliable than the 16v 150 but i'd rather the latter.
Driven a 1.7CDTi Corsa C and it fairly decent. Gutless in 1st then nice little pull in 2nd. Difficult to find a place to remap them (EDL leeds being one of the odd few) but decent gains 130+bhp

Mollygoogle is right, the Fiat bit is fine, you never hear of a 150 blowing a piston through the block do you? The M32 gearbox and swirl flaps are what cause problems. Saying that, my EGR got blanked off at about 50k, 12k later the swirl flaps and surrounding areas are still clean. Touch wood, no gearbox issues either, and that's with an EDS remap.

I have a 1.9 (120) 8v. 95k and on a green box, still going strong.

170bhp and not a single trip to the garage, has never broken down or ever failed to start on the first turn of the key (Y)

The 8v doesn't have swirl flaps, and with slightly less torque than the 16v it doesn't destroy gearboxes. I'd happily put my 8v (without box) against a 1.7 and watch it disappear in my rear view mirror (Y)

You can't remap the later Corsas due to the Denso ECU. Those who have mapped the 1.7 H seem to get 150-160 without any other mods (as I say they're usually putting of close to 130 standard).
