The part they offer to reduce oil drainback is very cheap,it's just a gasket,
the cost of fitting it is the expensive part
of course it's a waste of time if there's already damage to the chain and guides

170 pounds is cheap for you? And thats only that new part, new tensioners also needed, also the procedure takes at least 5 hours so at the end they offered me a 480 pound bill. I dont know about you guys in the UK or everywhere else, but its a schitload of money just to not hear the rattle :D And dont worry, if you dont install this it wont do any harm to the chain, this is how it was engineered... it maybe only hurts your ears
The tensioners have been modified for some time now,
the gasket to limit oil flowback is a relatively recent change (Dec2020)
are you seriously saying they're charging ÂŁ170 for the gasket 55515025 ?
don't swallow the fact the rattle is normal and won't do any damage, there are plenty of recorded instances of rattling engines leading to excessive guide wear leading to enough slack in the chain that it jumps teeth,
there's also the problem of parts of the guides falling into the sump causing the oil pump and/or pump chain to fail.

That's a very different engine to the o/p and has a belt not a chain,
those 1.7 Izuzu engines are some of the most reliable ever fitted to a Vauxhall,
200,000 is very common with lots doing over 500,000 with little issue
