Hi there, This is my first ever Vauxhall car, I'd bought a used Astra 2010 model it's the new shape, it's a 1.6 Petrol Exclusiv Auto it had 17,000 on the clock, the dealer told me it's a Ex-Mobility car, I'd filled up with £60.00 well it wasn't cutting out and now the low fuel warning light came on, and I've done only 220 miles!!!!:( that can't be right can it!!, I have to admit all my mileage is mostly local like stop go, stop go, being it a Mobility car are these different spec's to normal cars?? but one thing it's got great pick-up from standstill:thumbs: according to the service book the first 2 services were down with the supplying dealer and the third one the dealer said it'd only a oil/filter change which he did for me and a fresh 12 months MOT. I really like this car it's got a nice interior it looks very sporty, but that high fuel consumption is not looking good:( can I ask my fellow 1.6 petrol Auto's how much you're achieving with £60.00 fill?? looking forward for any solutions.
Dhuper.

I've a 1.6 SE 2013 manual and if running around town, up and down hills/stop start all weekend then the car does 34mpg all day but once on a run to work (not motorway) economy raises to around 37...on a motorway travelling around 70/75 easily does 45mpg.....I am sure there's a girl on here with the same spec car as me (and just down road from where I live) has an auto and she mentioned she gets around 30mpg.....im sure she had a coil pack issue around october/november last year and if you can find the thread why not drop her a message and ask her for more details.

....here you go her name is Stephy

by the way I am getting mine remapped on Friday so hope to improve a little on economy althoug I am having it done to improve the torque a little on the lower rpm range ...if you watch the post I have started on the bluefin for the 1.6 (non-turbo) I will give my verdict as to benefits etc.

if you're only doing local work don't fill the tank you're pulling the extra weight around for no reason in my 2.0CDTI I put in £25 per fortnight that covers me roughly for 250ish miles depending on how I drive of course.

It's common sense that filling the tank up to drive around town is pointless.

the J is a big old girl to move about but even i get slower to 250 in my Vxr and thats not driven sensible

hello and welcome to AON.
the 4 speed vauxhall auto box is not great economy wise.
the easytronic gearbox is better, economically
i also own a 1.8 auto and my trip is saying avg of 28.7 to the gallon.
this makes use a soft foot.

rumour has it that the new GM dual clutch is coming to the new corsa, so hopefully will be available in astras by the end of the year.
apart from that, this auto box tho, bullet proof is bad for town/city driving

I'd cry if I got 220 or less to a tank considering my days commute to & from work totals 150 miles... thankfully I bought the manual 2.0 diesel so manage 600+ miles to a tank

OP; you're mileage does sound about right & the suto will not be helping at all, guy at work has the same car & gets similar miles with ssimilar style driving... he wishes he'd kept his 270d C class auto fuel wise!

Based on the figures on the last thread, the gross difference would be 0.5%. But clever sciency type people point out that your engine uses more fuel when the tank is half empty because of reasons beyond my understanding to do with vapour and pressure. This is greater than the 0.5% efficiency saving from the weight loss, so in net terms you actually use more fuel.

Either way, even if the engineers and physicists are wrong, 0.5% of 25mpg is 0.125mpg, which isn't exactly going to make the OP feel he's won the lottery, which is why I wouldn't suggest it's the most helpful solution.

Not sure what you pay for petrol but lets say 130.9 (most stations have this price near me) x 4.54 = £5.94 / gal. thats 10.10 gallons to 220 miles if £60 put in = 21.78mpg !!

have to say thats horrendous for a 1.6 auto. i just hope that increases massively on a run but sounds like you do the town miles only.

i have to say i would seriously consider changing to something else at those figures. even on honestjohn website owners of this particular

model are getting around 33mpg, still well short of the ridiculously high figure of average 39+ set by vauxhall.

I'm getting 22mpg on my commute to work at present. Granted it has dropped as low as 16mpg. So I'd guess something is not right if the 1.6 has similar fuel usage is the auto box really that bad?

I"m terrible for leaving stuff in boot ie umbrella"s , coats , trainers etc etc and also for leaving roof bars on. i can see where martin lewis is coming from , i never fill to the brim only when going on hols. also i"m a tight ass and like to put £20 - £25 in at 1 time rather than hoofing aound a full weights worth of fuel.
