Was just pulled on the M8 between the kingston bridge and govan by the traffics and given a £30 fine for having HIDs fitted to the car. They are stating that any car with a HID kit fitted to an non leveling halogen lamp is illegal and will recieve a fine. So i have got 7 days to remove the HIDs and fit a standard halogen bulb.

The car has to have a projected headlamp with self leveling and headlamp washer to have a HID fitted to it.

********G Joke in my eyes.

Hope this gives a heads up to everyone.

HID's have always been illegal mate if no self levelling and washers are fitted. The 2012 EU objective is to do with MOT's.

I don't want to go into it again, but I have been on the receiving end of someone coming towards me with HID's and almost blinding me off the road :( and I mean literally . :(

On my way to work this morning at about 6:30 am while waiting to set off on the drive ands then Guy on the end of my street was doing the same and his car directly on the same side of the road turned his f******************ing hid lights on instead of side lights. I was blind and got out to have a go at him for 1.having full light directly into oncoming traffic 2.his light are illegal and I could have smashed into him 3

What is changing in the law? They've only been legal with self adjust and wash all along (to my knowledge), so I am not sure what is changing.

No-one can complain for being told to get them taken off, much the same as no-one can complain when they get pulled for illegally spaced/fonted plates. It's illegal - don't do it and you won't get pulled!

Last I heard even standard xenon lights aren't legal by UK law, but the EU law states they're perfectly fine and EU law goes above UK law, apparently.

Either way, HIDs in reflectors are illegal and you deserve your fine. The different characteristics of HID/Xenon light to halogens is massively different, so if you're putting your HIDs into a reflector unit designed for halogens, you will be scattering the light all over the bloody place, blinding on coming drivers.

You may as well drive with your full beams on, probably wouldn't make much difference to oncoming drivers...

I've never had a problem with mine. I have only ever seen 1 person adjust their rear view mirror as if I was blinding them. I can't remember ever being flashed and I've gone through 2 MOT's and about 50,000 miles with them on.

Mine do have cups over the bulbs, not sure if this is same as Astras as well as Zafiras.

Yes, I do see some people with HID's that are ridiculous, but I don't go point blank saying that everyone who has HID's is disrespectful to other road users. This argument can go on and on and on. I notice more people with front/rear fogs on in clear weather that I find much more irritating. And no, I don't go up their **** flashing them as that is even more dangerous!

Like Ross says, he's looking into the legality of it. I know rules on MOT's are changing and if I fail the MOT, I will remove them and put the standard headlight bulbs back in.

are you sure projector's are a must? look at the new civic's running factory xenon's in reflectors

i get more annoyed by all these top end 4x4's with there Xenon kits which are more blinding then my HID's and i know mine are bright
