Been a fair few replies going on here...

That remap certainly seems like a good deal, especially if they'll come to you and give you 14 days to cancel it...

Going back to the turbos though, as has no one fiddle with the wastegate arm at all, or put boost controllers on them at all?

Anyone know what boost they run at stock? Can't be that much...

indeed it cant be much, you can hear it dump some of the boost at around 2300-2400rpm aswell.

.... MORE BOOST MORE FUEL!!

are you sure??? i dint think the crd2 could be used with the 1.7 engine?

thought it was choice of 2 - the red or the cr+

The 1.7 runs boost of 1.18 bar for the 100bhp or 1 bar with 80 bhp
info comes from another forum tech spec page so not 100% sure but sounds about right

Jesus, that's a lot of boost for a small amount of power...

I'm still fairly new to turbos, but I'm used to petrol turbos which would give a fair old bit for 17 PSI!

But I guess this is where diesels are different

Might have to give it a go, shorten the arm a bit...

diesel does work differently to petrol though mate.

i cant be bothered to go into specifics, because i am too a noob, but basically the power yield is so low because the manufacturers put a lot more air in to reduce emissions.

we then come along and bump the fuel right up! and then up the boost, and up the fuel some more :p

I recently got a 1.7 CDTI 08 and after trial and error i found a remap is the best way to go. Get it tweaked right you still get real performance gains without dumping a whole load of smoke where ever you go and its just a flying wee thing on the motorway!
Last run to Leicester was 5 hours from Glasgow and achieved 55 mpg with a car full of crap!
