Hi everyone,

I'm a noob to the forum, so please bear with me.

I've had a quick browse of the forum for some answers to my problems. However, as I'm completely new to Astras (and don't even know whether mine is a G/H/Whatever - it's a 2006 '55' Astra 1.6SXi) I thought I would post the exact problems I'm experiencing in the hope that someone with much more knowledge could point me in the right direction using a bit of plain, simple English!

1. The clutch judders in 1st and 2nd gear. I know that this is a common issue. Is this something I need to get repaired, or is it something I can live with until the next service is due and have it done then?

2. The drivers side wingmirror has had replacement glass at some point, but the wrong glass has been fitted and it wobbles. Where can I get the proper glass, how much will it set me back and how easy is it to fit myself (I'm new to cars but have been building and maintaining my own mountain bikes for the past 10-15 years so I know my way around a set of tools).

3. The dial on the left hand side of the steering wheel doesn't work. I believe that this is the dial which operates the trip computer/mpg info/fuel remaining info. The only information I can get on the display is the total mileage and trip mileage - nothing else. Again, I believe that this was a known issue, and I believe that Vauxhall issued a recall so that it could be fixed. However, my car doesn't seem to have had the fix done (I can't find a record of it anywhere in the service books or receipts which are otherwise very comprehensive).

Like I said, I know b**ger all about Astras so please forgive me if I've asked something which has been covered a million times before. I just wanted to ask the questions so that I could get the exact information I need.

Thanks for your help :)

Here's the car, just to clarify:

Hi everyone,

I just thought I'd introduce myself :)

I've recently (as in yesterday) picked up the keys to my new car - A 2006 Astra 1.6 SXi Twinport.

I'm having a couple of issues with it, which I believe are common issues with the model. I'll be posting them up in the relevant part of the forums to try to get a bit of help!

I didn't really want to part with my old car (2005 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec) as it was by far and away the most reliable car I've owned. However a doddery old lady pulling out infront of us at a junction put an end to that, and it's now in the scrapyard without a front end :(

Our insurance payout wouldn't buy us another Focus of the same age/spec so I bought the Astra on a recommendation from a friend. Time will tell whether this was the correct decision or not. One thing I will say for it, for the same size engine as the Focus it's certainly got more grunt! It sounds lovely and throaty too :)

I'm changing the thermostat on my 1.8 Astra Coupe tonight, I was just checking I should replace the red with red and what is the ratio required?

Also am I correct in thinking it is 6.8 litres coolant capacity?

Thanks in advance.

I have owned a Vectra before for a month or so before I purchased my previous car and now the Astra is the replacement... I am wanting to do some subtle original mods or upgrades, nothing too big just yet though. I will upload pics when it has had a wash and the sun comes out to play (which is rare...)!
Looking forward to getting to know some of you guys.
PS: If an admin could help, I registered via FB and would prefer it if my username was just Tiago, I've tried looking and can't seem to change it so any help would be appreciated :)!
