Looking around they appear to be LED festoon bulbs.

Anyone know what is need for interior light & number plate light?

Big difference to standard bulb or not?

due to the canbus system don't led bulbs have to have a resistor put across the contacts so they work properly?,otherwise the cars system reports a blown bulb? i uprated my number plate bulbs with ULTRA sidelight bulbs and the interior reading lights too.

The interior lights use:

Map Lights (Either side of the Centre light) use 501 style (I have LED's in these)
Centre Light (10watt Festoon bulb)

Rear Centre light uses 501 bulbs, but if you try to put LED's in this the fuse will blow!

GazzaC
02-09-2008, 20:29
damn so will these blow the reg light fuse?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=360083102878&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=023

GazzaC

I only have the 1 standard interior light so it will be a 10w Festoon? They come in different sizes tho don't they?

The number plate light is just a standard 501 bulb?

GazzaC
02-09-2008, 21:18
yea just a standard w5w 501 bulb just checked

as for interior im in the same boat i only have the one light in my car, but not sure as they have like 39mm or 44mm or 34mm etc etc

I'll have to take out the existing interior light & measure it unless anyone knows any different?

Looks like a LED in the number plate light is a no-go then?

Cheers mate (Y)

I've got a couple of old PIAA sidelights that I changed so they would be better than the standard bulb but would prefer a LED.

Need to get the festoon bulb out I think to have a look & see what size it is.

Hi guys just to let you all know the canbus is linked to all the out side bulb part from the fogs so if you wonna change then for led's or hid's the canbus will keep shutting them down due to the lower voltage, i found this out try 2 change my dipped to hid's managed it by getting a kit from http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/hid-products.html
and i tryed to change the sidelights and number plate bulb for led's had the same prob. it can be done by useing resisters but then how do you fit the bulb as the bulb goes into a holder for the bulb. im sure you could do it with abit of work theo.
good luck if ur gonna try and if anyone manages it please let us know how.

Think I'll just put a brighter 501 w5w in the number plate light, can't be bothered messing around with LEDS.

Too much like hard work!

if your putting standard w5w 501 bulbs ur have no problems, but leds, you will need a resistor, mine worked fine once i put resistors on them, if not they flash then turn off

05-09-2008, 12:59
my led sidelights go off when i first put them on but then i just turn off and back on and there fine have had no problems with my led bulbs on the registration and there the same ones !!

Does anyone know if these would work for the number plate lights on the Astra VXR?? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2X4-LED-Xenon-white-HID-T11-501-W5W-Sidelight-bulbs-UK_W0QQitemZ360097174107QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item36 0097174107&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

They have no mention of resistors but in the pic it looks like it has a resistor inside them.

GazzaC

i bought this about 2 months ago and they never worked, the resitor in them in is too small does not stop enough current. the resister needs to be ALOT stronger. these are very easy to break open though and replace the resistor so thats the good thing! sorry mate

i will do soon, just dont have much time at the moment crammed with work and uni projects. basically all my bulbs are, i take standard 4 leds lights and solder a higher resistor to them. you also have to change two little connections. will let you know when i got some
