right guys, going to get an oil and filter change for my sri150, anyone got any idea how much VX will charge?

or would i be better off buying the oil and filter myself through the trade club and getting another garage to do it? if so, how much oil do i need and what oil should i get?

thanks in advance :D

I don't normally get my hands dirty as Deej at Rotherham always comes up trumps with the price of an oil and filter change. I try to do mine about every 7000 miles.

I'd say if you are competent then it's gonna be miles cheaper. I reckon you'd get the parts for 45 ish.

My good man Dave can get it done for about 80. I have the build of a walrus so changing the oil and filter would be a problem for me!

perrys my local stealer charged me 60 for oil and oil filter change (thats parts and labour)- but I'm not 100% sure they changed it with the correct oil - thanks for reminding me - I'm gunna check the manual now and find out.

I think I've got a similar issue with mine:

looking into this further - looks like I've been skanked by the stealer - Vauxhall recommend the following grades of oil:

GM-LL-A-025 or GM-LL-B-025 and the manual quite clearly states not to use grades other than SAE 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30 or 5W-40 - I got skanked with general helix 10/40 semi-synthetic which I'm going to have words with them about tommorow - gits.

there was a thread on these forums where some company who sold oil at a special discount for AON members recommended that we use 5W-30 (Thats what the previous owner before me was using Fully synthetic). I spoke with him the other day as he works for a well known UK oil manufacturing company (wink wink marc ;) ) and he stated that cus its now got Semi-synthetic stuff in it - I can't use Fully synthetic as it affects the engine - not sure about this but I'm not happy me local stealer is trying to fob me off with general grade oil!.

Last time I queried this with them (the fact they'd used 10/40) the service guy reckoned thats what they use in all they're cars - I couldn't argue with him as I didnt have the manual to check on at the time......

reading through this site and the recommendations made (which also marry up with professional recommendations) we should be using GM-LL-B-025 spec GM oil - thats 5W-30 - ideally fully synthetic.

buy the oil from a car shop (25ish) then get filter from vx at 8.75 then get private mechanic to do it for 15pounds so all in all 40pound, though last time i bought it off vx at 50 for oil an filter...not be making that mistake again!!

well my local stealer (Perry Vauxhall) insisted there was nothing wrong with using 10/40 and its vauxhall approved.

In future I'll be buying me own oil and getting them to knock 50 off the price of the service.

The service schedule specifies long life oil must be used, which means it must be fully synthetic. Semi-synthetic won't do, period.

Seeing as they were supposed to get the foreman to ring me back and he hasn't I'll pull them up on this again tommorow.

Personally I'd ring Vauxhall Customer Services at Luton and ask them about it. You may find you'll get an oil change for nothing. :)

apologies for jacking your thread Lee, just think info will be useful for others.

Just been on the phone to vauxhall and they checked with their technical guys who say that 10w/40 oil is ok provided it meets the B2 or B3 additive classification. Just confused the hell out of me!!!!

not really that bothered as me motors due to get its second service in December so I'll hang fire until then and then provide my own oil.
