I was driving down a country lane today and suddenly the light came up on the dash, the car with a spanner, what exactly does this mean?

I didnt realise anything was wrong at the time but when i came to a junction and went to pull away I realised that I wasnt getting as much boost as I was a few minutes ago and the car does not rev above 3k.

Anyone have a clue what could be up??

Your car has gone into limp mode m8, won't give you full power when the spanner light is on. Most likely an egr valve fault, what mileage is on the car?

Car is on 90k at the moment, I'm the 2nd owner. I know the car is in need of a service.

It is just totally random. No warning whatsoever.

I derestricted the airbox yesterday, could it be something to do with that?

the air mass meater might of failed so the car does not know how much air is going into the engine so its gone into limp mode

Yea it is quite high mileage but diesels go forever dont they (except mine lol), the car is an ex-company car so is bound to have high mileage.

Well I went back to my car after work and there is no light on and everything is back to normal  maybe is was the air mass meter, as it was the first time i'd really opened the taps on her since i derestricted it?

If you want to see if its the air flow meter, take the multiplug off and see if it runs better. Works wi some cars.
