View Full Version : Adjusting Trip Computer Display
I have got a new 08 Mk5 Astra SRi 1.9CDTi(150). This model has a monochrome multifunction display with a trip computer which displays range, average fuel consumption and instant fuel consumption. Trouble is, I find the instant fuel consumption figure distracting because it fluctuates wildly between 0 and 999! I end up glancing at it every few seconds! Is there any way of turning off the trip computer entirely? When the car is turned off the display (very) briefly reverts to a simple temperature, time and date display, a bit like the Mk4 Astra. This would be ideal for everyday use. Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the display or will it always show the fuel consumption stats? The manual is no help at all.
Thanks in advance.

Push the left scroll button in on the steering wheel (left thumb) and then you can scroll through the various functions, just leave it on one that doesn't constantly fluctuate like trip distance or mileage range left etc... It has to stay on one, you can't switch it off.
Ps ... Welcome to the site..
Thanks Steve, cheers for the welcome to the site. It's a bit of a bugger that you can't turn it off, especially when you can see exactly the screen you want just before the ignition is turned off! It's obviously in the computer software but has been overridden by the trip computer software in the higher spec models. The left scroll button leads only to one screen and it's not one that looks any good to leave on permanently. Oh well ...

i tend to have my trip computer set to the RANGE reading, the readings dont fluctuate......at least they shouldnt
or you could put it on the stop watch, but not start the stop watch
and as steve said, you can use the left scroll wheel as a faster means of going through the trip comp options
Thanks for your input. Setting it to show just RANGE would be fine but the range, average consumption and instant consumption are all shown on the same screen at the same time and seem to come as part of a package. Am I missing something? Mine is the monochrome (orange text) Multifunction Display which comes as part of the standard SRi spec (I have climate control as an extra, but I'm not sure if that affects the type of screen fitted). The display seems to show everything at once, including time, aircon details, external temperature, radio station and fuel consumption stats. The date only appears when the radio/CD is turned off.
Would love to solve this query!

if you push in the left hand thumb wheel on the steering wheel you can choose a value to reset or reset all but you can't just display one value like the ones without climate
not unless i'm missing somthing as well :sus:
Danmiser - if you can find out how I'll buy you a beer lol!
Strongbow, you're a star for taking a photo - that's exactly the style of display I have. I didn't realise that climate control affected the display type.
Anyone else out there got the same as the photo and knows the answer lol? Strongbow, I think you're right, it may not be possible!

Crikey, the displays have obviously changed again recently. The similar display in my 07 plate Sri (it's got climate, so has the GID display) normally displays range and instantaneous consumption, but doesn't continuously show the average. Yes, the constantly changing display annoyed me at first, but you'll soon get used to it and ignore it! I can only assume that preventing the driver from easily selecting another display is a syptom of the green lobby trying to make us aware of how much fuel we're using.
