I owened the Astra g 1.8 sri for 4 years and never had any major problems with it.It stuck to the road like glue.
For the last 4months ive owned the astra sportshatch 1.9 cdti sri 150 55plate and its been in for a timing belt kit and now the inlet manifold gasket has blown. And it has only done 28000miles.I have also lost in in corners a couple of times too.Does anyone else prefer the old astra g....I know i sure did....

must say its the astra h for me every time, its just so much better looking than the g, so much more refined, better interior and better engines.

When you drive an Astra H, you are making a statement of automotive style

NAD thats how mine ended up in a wall, the h understeers like a right c*nt :o

After having a G 2.2SRi for 3 years I find that apart from being called an Astra my H is a totally different car and all for the better. There is nothing - bar slightly better mpg and being a bit easier to get in my garage - that I miss about the G.

It was good during it's day but the G is now well past its sell-by date and their is no favourable comparision with the H. At the end of my ownership I was frustrated by the dead steering, the flatspots, the understeer and that depressing interior with cheap plastics and glorified sackcloth on the seats. It was 101% reliable though and did not miss a beat. Have not experienced any understeer at all in my H either, unlike what others have reported.

Okay, perhaps I relent a bit and say that the GSi in Arden Blue still looks a proper piece of kit.

i must admit my brother had a g for 5 years and now i have an h.

now i have some decent tyres on my h i can compare it to my focus which i considered better than the g and the astra h is an altogether better car. Better built, feels more solid, quicker and more comfortable. Oh and there is lift off oversteer!

I have one of each

Astra Sri Turbo 190 and an 08 Astra VXR

I would say the interior is obviously an improvement in the H
The ride quality is better in the VXR (even on the 19") but that's not saying the G is poor it's not.
As for reliability I have had no issues in the G but have only done 360 miles in the VXR so can't comment as yet....

If it's anything like the Sri T (52k no issues, touchwood) then we should be good.

dont think you can really compare the interiors as at the time the g was up to date and style as is the h now, from what most have said the engine in the h is better. personally think the g is a better looking car except the vxr.
