cruise control finally activated

took the motor in today for the 'warranty' reprogram of the cc and they told me it could not be done after they had been messing about for three hours as everything they tried did not work!!. so i came home and got the info off one of the post on here saying what needs to be altered in the ecu, went back and gave it to the service manager, and they then retried and it worked, and then they wanted me to pay for the 3 hours of messing around! guess what i told them. Any how this site rocks with all the info, which the vx dealers dont even seem to know.

yep cant beat a bit of blagging, also told them the seatbelt warning had stopped working as well but its a 56 plate and they dont work on them any how so that was my excuss. They were not to impressed with blue led conversion as they tried to say it was that what had caused the cc to stop working, and they also removed and checked the stalk manufacturing date and as mine was made in jan this year they said i was trying it on but told them it was a new one as my son had broken the old one whilst he was sat in the front of the car whilst we was waiting for the missus to do the shopping. so a good day of blagging, wonder if i can blag a little box out of andrew:D:lol:

So can this same method be done on an 08 sports hatch, just change the stalk and get tech 2. Culd i have the link for the ecu settings u used. Thanks mate

yes you should be able to do it depends on what engine you got though i think, some one will put me right if i am wrong, just get the stalk and connect the clutch switch wire to the switch from behind the speedo, take to vx and get it tech2'd. simple or you could try and blagg it like i did and get cruise for £30 :thumbs::lol:

how much is the clutch switch ?

stalk is about £30- 35 and the switch is under a tenner

Remember that Vauxhall do read the forums. It would not take a genius to trace this blagging back to the dealer it was done at. The car can's 'forget' it was programmed and it can't lose the settings, I am suprised the dealer did'nt pick it up.

This Vauxhall dealer would have put in a warranty claim against Vauxhall for the 'rectification' of your cruise control, once Vauxhall look at the chassis number of your car, they will see it was never specified with cruise control at the factory. Just making you aware.

It happended to a guy over on VxlSCC, he blagged his cruise and 2 months later he got a call from Vauxhall wanting paying for the warranty claim, he did'nt pay it but all the good will from Vauxhall was removed, as he found out from a subsequent warranty claim, it was rectified as Vauxhall are abliged to do, but they didn't make it easy for him, and I don't blame them for it.

Vauxhall are effectively charging people £200 for something that's free to them (or costs a couple of pence at most for that tiny switch on the clutch pedal on cars that wouldn't otherwise have them), so I don't blame people for trying to get it for free. It's already there in the car's ECU and so has already been paid for IMO.

If VX weren't petty enough to disable the function on three of the car's systems at the factory, the stalk would be plug and play (as it is on some cars, i.e., Land Rover's) and the issue of people blagging warranty work would never arise.

Likewise, the trip computer functions they used to charge £200 for. I fully support people trying to get that enabled under warranty because it's something that's there from the factory and has been intentionally crippled, out of sheer pettiness.

If they do read the forums, maybe they'd care to sign up and reply?

could not agree more stampede, and i doubt the dealer i used would even know about these forums as they did not even know you could get the codes of the internet for the cruise control, or even get it to work and they had all the info they needed from thier TIS software!!, and to take three hour to do it then all i can say its there loss, and i dont use them for warranty work usally as i use another dealer who are a lot more clued up but i did not have time to travel to them.

Theres a guy on Ebay, in Warwickshire, does the whole stalk, clutch switch, programming and fitting for £89.00...... thinking of going for this some time.
