Donwoody1981 13-08-2011, 22:48 Radiator/water level at a guess
1.4 Astra G 13-08-2011, 23:07 Done the pedal test there and it's showin up 1540 as a fault code ... And yes I have a/c for anyone asking =] took the a/c rad out tho as it was leaking.. Do I need the a/c for MOT/NCT?
Cheers
WeeAlRFC 13-08-2011, 23:29 Dude I had this, it's the coolant level warning light
1.4 Astra G 13-08-2011, 23:47 But my water level is ok .... How do I fix it? Lol
ibrahimx2001 14-08-2011, 00:05 what they said above:lol:
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 00:23 Is there a sensor that reads the level and if so where is it ?
ibrahimx2001 14-08-2011, 02:04 i doubt it it might be something to do with a sensor on the fan??
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 17:10 I'm goin out now to have another fiddle with it lol
ibrahimx2001 14-08-2011, 17:47 let us know how you get on with it buddy?
sri-scotty 14-08-2011, 17:51 when i bought my car that light was on, it sort of flashes on and off randomly. and sometimes stays on for days. he told me it was something to do with a box of wires under the car near the passenger wheel.
Not sure if its true i had a look at the commections and they looked ok so i ust left it.
Let us know how you get on with it matey.
doesnt this relate to a fault with the engine cooling system electronics? does the fan run all the time?
sri-scotty 14-08-2011, 18:05 thats the wording i couldnt think of, haha.
my fan doesnt run all the time though. just normal.
Gazmondo 14-08-2011, 18:07 Thermostat?
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 18:18 Ya my fan is running all the time... =[
yeah, its either the thermostat or cooling control module.
I dont know much about the G but it might get you started off on the fault.
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 18:23 Yeah I took out the thermostat and put it in boiling water and it's not opening ...
Would that cause the light to stay on tho ...?
i think so. it might also be on as you have taken the air con condenser out as the module controls the compressor, fans etc.
if you know the thermostat is knackered, replace it, they arent that expensive, you dont want to have the engine overheat.
is the light amber or red? cant tell from that picture. on the H, some of the lights start amber and go red oil warning for example.
WeeAlRFC 14-08-2011, 20:33 Yeah mate my thermostat was at fault, it wasn't working right and one day I overheated my engine as the radiator was frozen in winter! After the whole overheating/ explosion of coolant under the bonnet and a good drain and defrost, I changed the thermostat and it worked fine again.
A good indication that your thermostat isn't working properly is the engine seeming to take forever to bring the temperature gauge on the scale and up to 85-90. That, and you don't get any warmth from your heaters when you have them on.
mikephillips 14-08-2011, 21:08 http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk/showthread.php?t=67396
comes up as air con:sus: i agree with blinkturbo i go for module
if the thermostat is stuck open no problem if your on the motor way temp will drop to cold, so it could be stuck shut, my dads g its been stuck open for years but no warning light on
he has taken his air con condenser out, so thats probably the cause
still want to sort the stat though
mikephillips 14-08-2011, 21:14 when i bought my car that light was on, it sort of flashes on and off randomly. and sometimes stays on for days. he told me it was something to do with a box of wires under the car near the passenger wheel.

thats the module
mikephillips 14-08-2011, 21:20 he has taken his air con condenser out, so thats probably the cause
still want to sort the stat though
might be worth looking for aircon fuses and pull them out worth a go
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 21:46 Cheers lads
I've been routing at it all evening aswell as spraying my engine cover yellow =]
But no luck the fan is running constantly and the Amber light is still on?
as said, the code indicates a/c fault, and the cooling control module controls that too, so thats probably the cause of the warning light
mikephillips 14-08-2011, 22:34 have you had a look inside th module to check condition? it sonuds like ac fault
1.4 Astra G 14-08-2011, 22:38 Does that module just control the a/c ? If so could I take it out 4 gud?
nah, it controls the cooling system, so the fans and stuff for the engine
1.4 Astra G 15-08-2011, 14:33 Will it fail the mot if I take the bulb out of the clocks ?
mikephillips 15-08-2011, 16:23 Will it fail the mot if I take the bulb out of the clocks ?
does not matter what warning lights are on for a mot
ibrahimx2001 15-08-2011, 16:25 doesnt matter
1.4 Astra G 15-08-2011, 23:40 just gonna take out the bulb then =]
but still puzzled why the fan ison constantly ? :sus:
ibrahimx2001 15-08-2011, 23:55 im sure its the sensor buddy
get one from a scrappy and just replace the sensor and see what happens?
1.4 Astra G 16-08-2011, 00:17 which sensor is that ?
ibrahimx2001 16-08-2011, 00:18 i'll find out for ya in a little while ill have a look on my car and tell you where its situated
1.4 Astra G 16-08-2011, 00:21 cheersfor this lad =]
mikephillips 16-08-2011, 00:33 cheersfor this lad =]
there is 2 temp sensors
ibrahimx2001 16-08-2011, 00:52 as mike has pointed out and tbh i had a look at mine and not sure if i took a pic of the right thing but ill post the pic anyway:

1.4 Astra G 16-08-2011, 07:24 I got another radiator today for nothing so il give that a try and see how it goes ... Il keep ye updated =]
mikephillips 16-08-2011, 15:18 are you looking for the temp switch?
ibrahimx2001 16-08-2011, 17:53 update needed buddy
1.4 Astra G 17-08-2011, 00:31 Didn't get time today to get round to putting in the other radiator but removed the bulb in the clocks =] just have to put in the new thermostat tomorrow and hopefully fit the other radiator ...
Gazmondo 17-08-2011, 06:48 A faulty thermostat will ping up A/C fault codes - when mine went I had 4 A/C related fault codes.
Get it replaced and it should be fine (Y)
1.4 Astra G 17-08-2011, 23:27 went to toppart and collected the thermostat tofind outi need the thermostat housing aswell ... =[ ... so i ordered the new thermostat kit and and it turned out to be 2.50 more for the housing aswell
nigelhobbs 18-08-2011, 01:05 ask if anyone in your area has "opcom" or a fault code reader ....but the warning lamp means a fault in the cooling modual ... if you removed the condensor did you remove the wiring off the pressure switch on or near the condensor {right side } no sensor in circuit will cause a fault .... i honestly dont think your thermostat will cause this if the temp is norm ..... if your engine gets too hot you get a red w/l picture of a thermometer
the aircon system has a dedicated fan on the front of the condensor in addition to the fan behind the water rad the modual wont like this removed either good luck
1.4 Astra G 21-08-2011, 10:53 ok got everything sorted after all ...
wrong part kept being ordered (shops fault) and the housing and thermostat worked out to be €60... light on the dash is off and the fan isnt running constantly anymore =] happy days ......
WeeAlRFC 21-08-2011, 11:07 Good stuff bud, told you it was the thermo :P
Gazmondo 21-08-2011, 18:06 Good stuff bud, told you it was the thermo :P
